Public Speaking Bootcamp

About

For Grades 9-12. Students learn how great talks are built and delivered. They cover structuring a message, opening and closing strong, using voice, pace, pauses and body language, and designing simple slides. They practise impromptu speaking, storytelling and persuasion, handle questions and stage nerves, and get recorded feedback every session. The capstone is a five-minute TEDx-style talk on a real issue, delivered live.

Why it matters for the future

AI can write the script, but people still trust the person who delivers it with clarity and conviction. College interviews, leadership roles and teamwork all reward clear speaking. Students build a skill they will use in every class, interview and job.

Careers in the field

• Lawyer / Policy Advocate
• Entrepreneur / Startup Founder
• Marketing & Communications Manager
• Journalist / Broadcaster
• Management Consultant

Outcomes

✔ Learn how to structure a talk, open strong, use voice and body language, and manage stage nerves with confidence.

✔ Build a five-minute TEDx-style talk on a real issue, with a script, slides and a recorded final delivery.

✔ Publish your recorded talk and script on Futurowise, with a live link you can share on LinkedIn.

✔ Apply the same skills to Model UN, school debates, TEDxYouth talks and the ESU International Public Speaking Competition.

Overview

Before the program Students receive a short pre-read on what makes a talk memorable. They also record a 60-second introduction video, so Session 1 starts with a baseline to improve on. Week 1 - Foundations of Speaking Session 1 | Foundations Why people fear public speaking and how to manage nerves. Voice, pace, pauses and eye contact. Students give a short talk and get their first feedback. Session 2 | Structure and storytelling Building a talk with a clear message, a strong opening and a memorable close. Using stories, examples and data to hold attention. Session 3 | Body language and slides Posture, gestures and stage movement. Designing simple slides that support the speaker. Students choose a real issue for their capstone talk and get their topic approved. Week 2 - Capstone Talk Session 4 | Impromptu and persuasion Thinking on your feet with impromptu drills. Persuasive techniques, handling questions, and disagreeing respectfully, as in debates and Model UN. Session 5 | Rehearsal sprint Full run-throughs of the capstone talk with instructor and peer feedback. Refining script, delivery and timing using recorded playback. Session 6 | Demo day Students deliver their five-minute talks live, followed by Q&A and peer and instructor feedback. Project submission deadline: two days after Session 6 After the program: Students submit their recorded talk and script for publishing, and receive their certificate. They leave with a finished talk, a recording that shows their progress, and a repeatable method for any speech, presentation or interview.

Why students choose Futurowise

Student Quote

The cohort size being small made the meetings very interactive which I really liked about this program. Moreover, I enjoyed researching for the project given to us, which were then very well evaluated and we were given valuable feedback about the real-world applicability.

I loved that we got to actually build and test our own AI agents instead of just learning about them theoretically. It was really fun seeing my idea turn into a working prototype. I’d definitely recommend it to my friends if want to learn how to build something themselves. It’s practical, interactive, and you get to leave with your own working agent.

Futurowise's Carbon Credit Trading program broke down complex concepts, from trading mechanics to sustainability regulations, and connected every idea to how real markets actually work. I left with a clear understanding of something most adults find difficult to explain.

One thing that truly stood out to me was our instructor’s attitude and support, as he made the environment feel like a safe space, encouraging each of us to speak out our thoughts, offering us frequent smiles and nods.
