Airbnb, Inc. is a global online travel marketplace that connects hosts who provide accommodation with guests looking for short-term stays, experiences, and travel-related services. The company operates a platform-based business model where it earns revenue primarily through service fees charged on bookings made through its platform. Unlike traditional hotel companies, Airbnb does not own most of the properties listed on its platform; instead, it provides technology, payments, trust and safety systems, and customer support that enable transactions between hosts and guests. This asset-light model allows Airbnb to scale globally with relatively lower capital requirements compared to traditional hospitality businesses.
The financial model shows steady growth in Airbnb’s performance over the forecast period. Revenue increases from ₹11.102 billion in FY 2023-24 to ₹12.241 billion in FY 2024-25, followed by projected growth to ₹13.400 billion in FY 2025-26 and ₹14.740 billion in FY 2026-27. Gross profit rises consistently from ₹8.660 billion to ₹11.497 billion, maintaining a strong gross profit margin of approximately 78%, which reflects the strength of Airbnb’s marketplace model and relatively low direct costs. Net profit increases from ₹4.000 billion in FY 2023-24 to a projected ₹5.040 billion by FY 2026-27. The net profit margin remains stable at around 34–36%, indicating strong profitability and effective cost management. The forecast assumes continued revenue growth of 12% in FY 2025-26 and 10% in FY 2026-27, supported by increasing travel demand, platform expansion, and improved customer engagement.
Based on the analysis, Airbnb appears to be a strong business with attractive long-term characteristics. Its marketplace model creates scalability, strong margins, and global growth opportunities without requiring significant ownership of physical assets. The company benefits from network effects, where more hosts attract more guests and increased guest activity encourages more hosts to join the platform. However, the biggest risk to this forecast is competition and changes in the travel industry. Airbnb faces pressure from traditional hotel companies, other online travel platforms, and changing consumer preferences. Additionally, stricter regulations on short-term rentals in major cities could limit supply growth and affect future revenue. Overall, Airbnb remains a financially attractive company with strong profitability potential, but its future growth depends on maintaining marketplace growth, managing regulatory challenges, and continuing to differentiate itself from competitors.
